About Me: The Story Behind Cookinary
Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. Name is Marco and my story is a bit of a map. I was born in Switzerland, raised among the cozy traditions of the Alps, and now, I’m living a completely different adventure as an expat in Costa Rica. Moving from the crisp air of Switzerland to the tropical warmth of Central America changed more than just my scenery—it completely transformed my kitchen.
Bringing the World to the Table
I started Cookinary because I wanted a place to keep the recipes that make me feel at home, no matter where I am. Some are the Swiss and German classics that are part of my DNA, but many others are “gifts” from the friends and family I’ve met along the way.
There is something incredibly special about cooking a dish that a friend has shared with you; it’s like traveling to their home country without ever leaving your stove.

You Don’t Need a Chef’s Hat to Cook Great Food
I’ll let you in on a secret: I am not a professional chef, and I don’t think you need to be one either. I believe that some of the most fantastic flavors in the world come from home kitchens, not five-star restaurants. You don’t need fancy techniques or expensive gadgets to create a meal that tastes like a masterpiece. All you need is a bit of curiosity and the willingness to try something new.

For me, a recipe is more than just a list of ingredients. It’s a way to connect. Whether I’m perfecting a silky Züri-Gschnätzlets that reminds me of my roots, or whipping up a vibrant Chifrijo for my Costa Rican family, cooking is how I share my love and my history.
On this blog, I’m sharing my personal favorites—the ones I actually cook on a Tuesday night or for a big Sunday gathering. My hope is that these recipes find a permanent home in your kitchen, too, and that they inspire you to explore the incredible cultures and flavors our world has to offer.
Let’s get cooking!
About the Images used in this Blog
Since I am far more comfortable holding a wooden spoon than a professional camera, you might have noticed the polished look of the photos on this page.
I’ve used AI-generated imagery. While the recipes, the heritage, and the passion behind every word are 100% real and personal, these visuals help me illustrate the “vibe” of my kitchen and my travels when I’m too busy cooking to worry about lighting and lenses!
