How about switching it up this week by making caramelized onion stuffed challah?

This caramelized onion and poppy seed filling can be used in almost any bread product to add flavor, moisture, and a delicious surprise with each bite.

Ingredients

Step by step method

  • Melt the margarine in a large frying pan.

  • Add the red onions and cook covered over low heat for 30 minutes.

  • Uncover and add poppy seeds, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook an additional 5 minutes.

  • Roll out dough into long, thin, wide lines. Spoon filling into a line down the center of the dough. Roll dough into spirals.

  • Or, alternate layers of dough with onion mixture and place in a loaf pan.

  • Bake until done. (This will depend on the bread recipe you use.)
